Our Missions

At NPC we have taken the decision to partner with a number of mission organisations and people seeking to alleviate suffering and bring the hope of the gospel both close to home and around the world. We also support two local charities who provide very much needed physical and mental well being support within our own community here in Newcastle.

United Appeal

1. United Appeal

The United Appeal for Mission is at the very heart of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. Every aspect of the Church’s mission depends to some extent on United Appeal. It supports projects, programmes and staff at home and overseas. It helps congregations and individuals to build God’s Kingdom through youth and children’s ministry, social action and the training of leaders. At NPC we are committed to supporting mission through United Appeal and also link directly with one of the key workers supported by the fund.

2. TEAR Fund

Tearfund is a Christian charity with over 50 years of experience in international development. They work directly, and/or alongside local partners and churches in more than 50 countries to tackle complex poverty in three main ways:

– Providing a humanitarian response

Open Doors

3. Open Doors

Open Doors is a Christian charity that started in 1955, with “Brother Andrew” smuggling Bibles to the persecuted church in Communist Europe. It now supports the persecuted church by supplying Bibles, providing emergency relief and helping persecuted believers stand strong for the long-term. They do this by:

Distributing Bibles and Christian Resources

Training Christians and church leaders

Supporting victims of violence and disaster

Bringing hope to the Middle East

Speaking out in advocacy

Raising awareness and encouraging prayer

Mobilising the church in UK and Ireland

Exodus

4. Exodus

Exodus was created in 1977 here in N. Ireland and exists to see generations of young people boldly following Jesus and becoming lifelong disciple makers.

They use Jesus’ example of a model of a four stage journey:

Ex-plore

Ex-change

Ex-press

Ex-tend.

This shapes all of their ministry and serves young people at every stage of the adventure.

We are delighted to provide a work office and meeting space for the South Down Area team here in NPC

Nakansongola

5. Nakansongola

Nakansongola is a district in central Uganda and NPC has developed a relationship with it since an initial mission trip undertaken by some of the Boys Brigade members. Many of our members have been out from young to old, running children and youth programmes, helping build the school and even training bee keepers!

Local Community Based Charities

As such we are delighted to support 2 local charities that provide great services within our community.
